About Violet Miranda: Girl Pirate

Violet Miranda: Girl Pirate is a graphic novel by Emily Pohl-Weary and Willow Dawson that's been told in four parts. It draws on the life stories of history's most famous women pirates: Anne Bonny and Mary Read.

ISSUE 1: The adventures start when Violet Miranda and her best friend Elsa Bonnet, precocious girls who've grown up together on the idyllic island of Los Vagos, are kidnapped and witness their fathers' murders. They discover their loving fathers were once fearsome pirates who swindled the famed Calico Jack out of a treasure chest.

ISSUE 2: After long months at sea, life on a pirate's ship becomes commonplace. Violet and Elsa convince Calico Jack's son, their captor, to train them in the use of weaponry. The girls' experiences vary, encouraging the differences in their personalities to develop. Whereas Violet is treated well, Elsa is continually picked on by the men on board.

ISSUE 3: Then the girls are forcibly separated for the first time in their lives. Violet is tricked into staying aboard the pirate ship, while Elsa is left behind on land to care for their ailing mothers. Violet becomes confident she's the only one who knows how to find the treasure, hidden at the fabled Devil's Throat. She stages a coup and seizes control of the ship she's been a prisoner on. Meanwhile, Elsa stirs up a little trouble of her own in the pirates' cove, terrorizing a gang of pirates into her employ.

ISSUE 4: The final part of the saga is now available!
