Kiss Machine Presents... Publications

Starting in February, 2005, Kiss Machine will be publishing two special 24-page issues per year under the new Kiss Machine Presents... line. These "graphic novellas" will feature the work of one Canadian writer and one Canadian artist per issue.

We've already selected the duos who will fill our printing schedule for the next couple years, and they're hard at work on inky, stinky creations.

Summer Ink: An Illustrated Book of Letters

Summer Ink is two months' worth of correspondence between long-time friends Golda Fried and Vesna Mostovac.

On these pages, sticky with tears, cigarette ash, beer, coffee, ketchup and bacon grease, they document their trials and tribulations in the world of love and heartbreak, paying close attention to the songs spinning in the background. Each letter comes alive with graphics Vesna has drawn and collaged, based on images present in the writers' minds as they wrote the letter.

Written by Emily Pohl-Weary
Illustrated by Willow Dawson

In response to the male-dominated comics industryâs lack of positive role models for teen girls, Emily Pohl-Weary and Willow Dawson envisioned Violet Miranda: Girl Pirate, a graphic novel told in four-parts.

Kiss Machine Presents... Skim

Words by Mariko Tamaki
Art by Jillian Tamaki

It's 1992. The jocks are suicidal, the popular girls are in mourning, and the goths are bored.

It seems like everyone but 16-year-old suburban witch Skim Takota, and her best friend Lisa, is freaking out. It's a weird time to fall in love, but a witch has to do what a witch has to do.

The second Kiss Machine Presents... publication is a 24-page excerpt from Skim's diary--a gothic romance for geeky goths and the people who love them.
