Mendacity

An uncompromising story about the international sex trade by writer Tamara Faith Berger and artist Sophie Cossette.

In one reckless stab at making something of her life, Inna Rosca, a tough, young, Moldovan woman gets caught up in a human smuggling ring. Mendacity tells the tale of Inna’s navigation and survival of the brutal passage from her hometown, Chisinau, to a seedy brothel in Tel Aviv.

Trapped in the mendacious world of sex work, Inna’s intense, intellectual nature is compromised by the pimp who holds her captive. It is in the brothel, however, that she also meets Hersh – a religious Jewish john who seems to share her sensibilities. As Hersh provides Inna with unprovoked tenderness, Inna falls in love. And although they inhabit radically different realities, Inna and Hersh share the craving for momentous human connection within the contract of brothel-bound sex.

Mendacity's CoverMendacity, the latest 24-page release in Kiss Machine magazine’s new line of graphic novellas, describes the inescapable conditions that provoke so many young women to make the treacherous crossing – literally and psychologically – from hometown to brothel, while emphasizing the enduring power of the female survival instinct. Please note that it containst mature content.
