Kiss Machine Presents... Publications

Starting in February, 2005, Kiss Machine will be publishing two special 24-page issues per year under the new Kiss Machine Presents... line. These "graphic novellas" will feature the work of one Canadian writer and one Canadian artist per issue.

We've already selected the duos who will fill our printing schedule for the next couple years, and they're hard at work on inky, stinky creations.

Violet Miranda: Girl Pirate

About Violet Miranda: Girl Pirate

Violet Miranda: Girl Pirate is a graphic novel by Emily Pohl-Weary and Willow Dawson that's been told in four parts. It draws on the life stories of history's most famous women pirates: Anne Bonny and Mary Read.

Violet Miranda: Girl Pirate #4 of 4

Written by Emily Pohl-Weary
Illustrated by Willow Dawson

A graphic novel in four parts

Continuing the story where issues #1, #2, and #3 left off, the final chapter of Violet's saga is now available!

Emily Pohl-Weary and Willow Dawson envisioned Violet Miranda: Girl Pirate in response to the excessively awful portrayals of female pirates that seem to saturate pop culture.

Summer Ink: An Illustrated Book of Letters

Summer Ink is two months' worth of correspondence between long-time friends Golda Fried and Vesna Mostovac.

On these pages, sticky with tears, cigarette ash, beer, coffee, ketchup and bacon grease, they document their trials and tribulations in the world of love and heartbreak, paying close attention to the songs spinning in the background. Each letter comes alive with graphics Vesna has drawn and collaged, based on images present in the writers' minds as they wrote the letter.

Violet Miranda: Girl Pirate #3 of 4

A graphic novel in four parts

Continuing the story where issues #1 and #2 left off, our girl pirate Violet Miranda is tricked into sailing off aboard the pirate ship while her friend Elsa is left behind on land. Onboard with the men, Violet becomes more and more confident sheâs the only one who knows how to find the treasure at Devilâs Throat. Meanwhile, Elsa's stirring up a little trouble of her own...
